DIRECTOR OF SURF SPORTS - Mark Williams
Mark Williams oversees all aspects of Surf Sports at the BMD Northcliffe Surf Club. Mark is a three times World Surf Race Champion, former Australian and Goodwill Games Surf Race Champion, 11 time Australian Team Representative and BMD Northcliffe Hall of Fame Inductee - 2004. Mark holds a Bachelor of Business/Marketing and was a previous owner of Dolphin Surfcraft for 5 years.

COACHING 
BMD Northcliffe's coaching program caters for all abilities from the novice to the elite. We believe our Coaching structure and program is professional and world class. Our coaches are world leaders in their divisions and our facilities are second to none. Below is a breakdown of our Coaching Structure.

HEAD SENIOR COACH - Barry Newman
Barry is the Club's Head Senior Coach from under 15's through to Opens. He was one of the original Uncle Tobys Ironmen and has won numerous State and Australian Titles. He is a Level 3 Surf Coach and the current Australian 45-49 years Ironman Champion. In 2010/11 Season Barry coached Shannon Eckstein and Courtney Hancock to winning the Kellogg's Ironman Series and also the Australian Ironman Championship. Barry was also the Head coach of the Northcliffe Team which won the Australian Pointscore Championship and the Head Coach of the QLD Cyclones Team.

DEVELOPMENT/ASSISTANT COACH - Gavin Hill
Gavin was the Junior Head Coach for the past 6 seasons. He has won numerous State, Australian and World Titles. He is the current 45-49 years Australian Board Race Champion. The BMD Northcliffe Nipper Team has placed in the top three clubs at the past 5 Queensland Junior State Championships and this season won the QLD Pointscore for the first time

Gavin now moves up into the Seniors section. His role is dedicated to the Under 15 and Under 17 age groups. He will also mentor the Under 14 age group into the Seniors. Gavin's new role will help with the retention of our younger members

SKI TECHNIQUE COACH - Tate Smith
Tate Smith was the 2006 Australian Ski Champion and a member of the 2008 Australian Olympic Kayak Team. As a member of BMD Northcliffe Surf Club, he has won 15 Australian Championship Titles. Tate provides our athletes with advice and tuition which incorporates expert technique and stroke correction work including video analysis.

STRENGTH/CONDITIONING AND REHAB COACH - Joel Simpson
Joel has been a member of Northcliffe Surf club for 14 years and has placed fourth and fifth in 2009 and 2010 Australian single ski finals. In 2010 and 2011 Joel has been a member of the Australian Kayaking team competing in the 200m events.

Joel has strength and conditioning experience with the AIS and has an undergraduate degree in Exercise science, a post-grad diploma in pharmacology, and is an accredited exercise physiologist. Joel also runs a rehabilitation practice, Safe and Healthy People.

SATELITE COACH - LOU WILSON
Lou is the Head Coach at our sister club Lennox Head. He is a coach with the NSW North Coast Academy of Sport and coaches a small High Performance Squad which includes Northcliffe athletes living in Lennox Head.

Lou coaches all disciplines and in the past 2 years has produced State and Australian Champions in swim, board, ski, iron and 2k run. In 2010/11 his squad of 25 athletes produced 7 State and 5 Australian Champions.

SENIOR BEACH SPRINT COACH - John Smith
John Smith has over 50 years running experience. He is a two times Gold Coast Gift winner and has trained countless Australian Champions including Simon Harris - seven times Australian Beach Flags Champion.

SURF RESCUE COACH - Damien Moffrey
Damien Moffrey has coached BMD Northcliffe's Surf Rescue Team for the past 11 years. BMD Northcliffe has won 18 gold medals in this area at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships and numerous silver and bronze medals. The Champion Patrol Team has won 8 Australian gold medals in 8 consecutive years. We have also had five Australian Champion Lifesavers.

BOAT COACH - Drew Griffith
Drew Griffith has over 20 years boat coaching experience and has won three Australian Surf Boat Titles. The BMD Northcliffe Boat Coaching structure consists of gym, river and surf sessions.

MASTERS COACH - Bruce Kolkka
In 2009 Bruce was inducted in Surf Life Saving Australia's Hall of Fame. Bruce has won an amazing 58 Australian Championships. He has coached the Masters Teams to a record breaking 12 Australian Masters Pointscore Championships out of the last 14.

JUNIOR HEAD COACH - Chris Redler
Chris joined our coaching team in 2010 guiding our members to their first ever Junior State Title. He joined Northcliffe in 1985 rowing boats before switching to individual board and iron competition winning numerous State and Australian Masters medals. He has over 6 years Junior coaching experience.

ASSISTANT JUNIOR COACH - Tiarne Smith
Tiarne Smith has been involved in Surf Life Saving for over 25 years. She has won four Short Board Riding Australian Championships and five Long Board Australian Championships. Tiarne brings a wealth of knowledge to the junior members of our club.
