Membership is limited to children aged 7 to 13 (Under 8-14), although we also run a program for nippers, aged 5 and 6 (Under 6 and 7). The age group is determined as of midnight on the 30th September at the commencement of each season. Therefore if your child is 8 on the 30th Sept 2012, they will be in the U9 age group. If they are 11, they will be in the U12s.
Prior to joining the surf club, it is compulsory that all children (U8 - U14) be tested at the start of each season before they enter or participate in any Surf Life Saving Australia Junior Activity Program.
Each member needs to complete a Pool proficiency. This can be done at one of our Sign on days or at one of our weekly swimming sessions at The Southport School (TSS) and seeing our Head Nipper Coach, Chris Redler
Once your child has completed their Pool proficiency they must be able to complete their Run-Swim-Run to participate in any Nipper water activity.

POOL PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS ARE AS BELOW
AGE / POOL SWIM & FLOAT
- Under 6..... Kick on wall with face in water / 30 sec survival float
- Under 7..... Push off wall with face in water / 30 sec survival float
- Under 8..... 25m swim (any stroke) / 1 min survival float
- Under 9..... 50m freestyle / 1 minute survival float
- Under 10... 100m freestyle / 1.5 minute survival float
- Under 11... 100m freestyle / 2 minute survival float
- Under 12... 200m freestyle / 2 minute survival float
- Under 13... 300m freestyle / 3 minute survival float
- Under 14... 400m freestyle in 9 minutes or less / 3 minute survival float
AGE RUN-SWIM-RUN
This proficiency is be completed at the beach in the ocean
- Under 6 & 7... No requirement
- Under 8.......... 25m run, 25 wade, 25m run
- Under 9.......... 50m run, 50 swim, 50m run
- Under 10........ 50m run, 50 swim, 50m run
- Under 11........ 50m run, 100 swim, 50m run
- Under 12....... 50m run, 100 swim, 50m run
- Under 13....... 100m run, 100 swim, 100m run

U11-13 yrs Nipper Board Levy
A $50 board levy has been introduced for the U11- U13 age groups. This levy is for nippers who do not own a board and gives members use of a club owned nipper board during the season at scheduled training sessions and carnivals. Nipper boards may vary during the season and each user is accountable for any repairs due to irresponsible use. This levy will enable us to purchase more craft, repair accidental dings and also encourage nippers to look after the boards.
